For more than 50 years, we have supported NIU’s mission through work that centers histories, experiences and traditions relevant to Black and African American identities. By seeking to understand the obstacles and equity gaps experienced by those with these identities, we’re better able to support the success of all students.
Our programming provides:
Recognition and support: We acknowledge and work to address challenges faced by marginalized, minoritized, rural, urban, first-generation and other intersecting identities of students, faculty and staff.
Collaboration: We engage with NIU’s cultural and resource centers, colleges and other units across campus to promote a collaborative, supportive space for all.
